Electric Car BC is the Western Canadian distributor for Global Electric Motorcars, creators of the GEM car, a low-speed electric vehicle and pioneer in the electric vehicle industry. With more than 40,000 vehicles on the road today, Global Electric Motorcars prides itself in manufacturing the world's best electric vehicle.As a low-speed vehicle, or LSV, the GEM is capable of speeds up to 40 km/hr, can cover a distance of 45 km on a single charge, and offers the convenience of 'refueling' at home, at the office, or anywhere with an electrical outlet, making visits to the gas station a thing of the past. Through collaboration with the British Columbia Provincial Government, BC witnessed the creation of the low-speed vehicle classification, or neighborhood electric vehicle (NEV) in 2008.

Throughout BC, the GEM neighborhood electric vehicle is legal on all roads up to 40km/hr, and upon municipal adoption, legal on roads of 50 km/hr. In the past two years, the cities of Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Whistler, North Vancouver, Port Coquitlam, and West Vancouver have all adopted the 50km/hr bylaw, to name a few, making the GEM car an ideal sustainable choice for traveling around city centers, gated communities, resorts, sports stadiums, job sites, or neighborhoods. GEM cars are available in a choice of six models: the GEM e2 two-passenger, the GEM e4 four-passenger, the GEM e6 six-passenger, the GEM eS with a short-back bed, the GEM eL with a long-back bed, and the GEM eL XD extra duty with a long-back bed or hydraulic dump-back option. Each GEM model meets and exceeds all federal safety regulations for low-speed vehicles and are thoroughly tested at an automotive proving grounds for quality and endurance.
